Potential draftees on the Steelers initial draft short list
Zach Harrison, edge, Ohio State
Including Harrison on this list would indicate he is a player Mike Tomlin would like to have on the Steelers; however, it would be difficult to think the Steelers take him at 17 or 32. It would be more plausible to see Harrison go either in round three or four if he does at all.
The inclusion of Harrison on this list does hold another significance. It shows the Steelers still feel they have a need to add another effective edge rusher to the team. With the 32nd pick, it's plausible to assume Lukas Van Ness, Iowa, or Nolan Smith, Georgia, could still be on the board at 32. If not, then Will McDonald, Iowa State, B.J. Ojulari, or Felix Anudike-Uzomah would still be available. Then perhaps the Steelers maybe slightly overreach for Jones but take an edge at 32.
It's still preliminary to assume the Steelers will take an edge at 17 unless some other names pop up on Tomlins's dinner list. Plus, if the Steelers bring back Dupree, then it’s likely that if the Steelers do take an edge rusher, it might not happen until the late rounds. Yet we can assume the Steelers want to address the edge, and a few quality players are available. Whether the Steelers opt for the draft or free agency is still an open question.
