2. Steelers SAF Terrell Edmunds

There's something to be said with continuity at the safety position and the Pittsburgh Steelers have had a good thing going in the backend of their secondary with Minkah Fitzpatrick and Terrell Edmunds. This is to be expected as Pittsburgh spent a combined two first-round picks on these players (Fitzpatrick via trade with the Dolphins in 2019).

With Edmunds and veteran safety Damontae Kazee, both set to hit the open market in free agency, the Steelers can't afford to let both of them go. Edmunds hasn't shown the ability to take the ball away with any consistency, but he has improved as a tackler around the line of scrimmage and has developed into a more consistent player.

Because of his lack of ball production, the Steelers were able to sign Edmunds back on the cheap last offseason just prior to the NFL Draft. It's very possible that Edmunds will bide his time for the shot at a more lucrative deal with another club, but he's not guaranteed to get one.

Pittsburgh might need to be patient here, but keeping Edmunds around would mean that the Steelers would haven't to blow good draft capital or lots of money on the safety position this offseason. That's reason enough for Edmunds to stick around in 2023.
