Just like every year, most tackles gain steam around draft circles as the weekend long festivities get closer. That was the case this time around too as the top four tackles on the board started to get picked early in mock drafts. That caused most fans of the Steelers to cringe and cautiously remain hopeful that this club would find a way to land a top left tackle in this class.

It was a long wait, but the black and gold decided to remain patient instead of trading in a panic move. Paris Johnson Jr. flew off the board at pick six and that started to put significant doubt in the eyes of fans. A couple more tackles fell off the board and it seemed like Broderick Jones could fall to Pittsburgh if the New York Jets passed on him. That risk was not worth the gamble in the mind of Khan, and he jumped ahead of them from pick 17 to 14.

Jones would hear his name called to Pittsburgh as the commissioner made the choice official. The Steelers barely paid anything for the move up to select Jones and they got a legit starting left tackle that should only get better from here. This was a perfect way to kick off the draft, especially after Jones was the last prospect that could start at left tackle in this draft class.
