1. 55. . . 3rd round. Pick 93. Darnell Washington. player

Perhaps the best value pick in the entire draft, Darnell Washington was the best choice by the Steelers in 2023. Some might see tight end as a luxury pick at this juncture of the draft, but looking past Washington would be crazy in the third round. Not only did Pittsburgh get Washington, but they traded back and retained a fourth-round pick in the process.

Pat Freiermuth is a bright spot on a dim offense, but this selection here only infuses the weapons on this offense further. Zach Gentry is a good blocking option, but he would struggle to be a starting level guy if Freiermuth would go down. Washington has tremendous talent that carries an all-around game with him. They now have a top two that might be the best duo of tight ends in franchise history.

Why did Washington drop? Well, there was reportedly a medical concern with his knees heading into the draft. Some had a bigger concern about it than others, but it seems like there was some knee swelling that caused a red flag. Health might be the issue with this player if anything. He is a tremendous talent that should have gone late on day one or early on day two. The Steelers happily got tremendous value from him late in round three.
