Remember when the Denver Broncos wanted to get rid of quarterback Russell Wilson so bad that they decided to eat $85 million in dead cap for two seasons just so they could part ways?

It sure would be nice for the now-Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback to get his revenge on the Broncos if he had the chance, huh? Of course, that's what everyone is talking about this week as the Steelers prepare to take on Denver this coming weekend.

Unfortunately for Wilson, he was held out of Week 1 with his ongoing calf injury which led to Justin Fields getting the nod under center. With Fields playing pretty well, taking care of the football and leading Pittsburgh to a win, a lot of fans would like to see the team stick with him going forward.

But, remember, Wilson was the perceived starter throughout training camp, that is until his calf injury popped up.

Fast forward to practice on Wednesday, and Wilson was once again limited, just as he was last Thursday and Friday when he ultimately went on to be inactive against the Atlanta Falcons.

With Wilson still limited this late in the week, what does that mean for the Broncos game? Does Wilson have any shot at getting his revenge?

The Steelers are preparing for Justin Fields to start in Week 2

After hearing head coach Mike Tomlin speak on Wednesday, it appears the Steelers are planning on Fields starting yet again in Week 2, meaning Wilson will not get his chance at revenge on Sean Payton and company.

In all seriousness, this is the best move for Pittsburgh. Continuity matters, and Fields has gotten a ton of reps with the starters for quite some time now. Of course, getting the Week 1 start was the biggest and most important experience he's had yet, with Pittsburgh, so keeping him under center is a wise move.

Not only is it wise to keep Fields under center because he looks like a strong starting option, right now, but it would also be foolish to throw Wilson out there if he's less than 100 percent.

Wilson obviously wants to play. We know this. But, keeping him on the sideline until he is healed should be the priority.

This is the nature of the game of football. This stuff happens. Wilson came in thinking he was going to be the guy, and an injury now forced him to take a back seat. If Fields continues to play well, Wilson may never get his job back. Again, it's just the nature of the beast.

Tomlin will continue to do what's best for his football team. We've seen it recently with Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph. He isn't going to shy away from making the absolute best decision at the most important position in the game. It's all about the team, as it should be.

Prepare for Fields in Week 2, folks.
