Steelers 2024 Mock Draft: Pittsburgh trades up for a position fans might not expect
Steelers mock draft round 6: Joe Milton III, QB, Tennessee
The Steelers have a newly rebuilt quarterback room just after one insane week of free agency. Things move fast in the NFL and Pittsburgh not only signed Russell Wilson, but they made multiple moves at the position via trade. Kenny Pickett was sent to the Eagles, which shocked the world. Khan has not been afraid to move on from prior failures for this club.
Moving on from Pickett was shocking enough, but the fact that they then traded for Justin Fields just a day later made Pittsburgh explode. Everyone was gobsmacked, but they seem to crave more moves. Khan has certainly made the quarterback position more interesting for this upcoming season. They still need more bodies at quarterback.
Undrafted free agency could be an option, but Pittsburgh needs to add someone to be a third-stringer. They could sign an undrafted free agent to be their camp arm and potentially battle with the third guy. They take Joe Milton III with their final pick in this mock draft. He has a ton of things that make him a perfect boom-or-bust candidate.
Milton might have the strongest arm out of any of these quarterbacks coming out of the draft. He has great size, but he doesn't use his legs too much. If he can develop into a better decision-maker at the next level, then the sky is the limit for Milton. He hasn't been able to show that thus far, so hopefully he could become a quality backup option as his worst outcome as a prospect.
