Steelers 2024 Mock Offseason: Pittsburgh goes outside the box and guns for big names
Steelers mock draft round 7: Tory Taylor, P, Iowa
We finish off another mock draft by taking a punter with the final pick. It is kind of shocking that the top punter in the draft class is still there to pick in the seventh round. The Steelers need guys in the position to compete for the starting job. They already signed King earlier in free agency. He is coming off a full season of the UFL at this point.
Harvin was a failed draft pick from years ago, so this could bring a little bit of bitterness from fans. It would be wise to bring in two quality options to battle for the starting job as their punter. Taking one in the draft here would likely put him ahead of King in the competition to start training camp. It would be a quality competition to watch during the preseason.
Tory Taylor is the final pick of this mock draft portion of the offseason for the Steelers. He is the consensus top punter in the class and was one of the more consistent guys. He got a ton of work as Iowa boasted one of the worst offenses in college football. He is a young guy who should be able to flip the field on numerous occasions.
Taylor put up better numbers throughout his collegiate career than Harvin ever did. Add those numbers on top of Taylor punting nearly double the amount that Harvin did, and it shows the quality player that Taylor is. Keep in mind that he also punted in Iowa, which has similar weather styles as Pittsburgh in many aspects.
