Steelers mock draft round 4: Matt Goncalves, OT, Pittsburgh
If the Steelers wait this long to address the offensive tackle position, they could be looking at another home-grown product as the best on the board. Matt Goncalves has been an offensive tackle at Pitt for the past four seasons, but his snaps have been limited -- largely due to a season-ending injury in 2023.
Goncalves isn't an elite athlete, but he does have size on his size. The Pitt product measured in at 6'6 1/4'' and 327 pounds at the NFL Combine. Last year, Omar Khan and Andy Weidl seemed to express interest in big offensive tackles, and Goncalves fits the bill.
Obviously, the prize would be landing a mammoth OT early on like Georgia's Amarius Mims or Alabama's JC Latham. However, the Steelers could very well consider wide receiver a more pressing need at this point.
As rough as it would be to see Dan Moore Jr. starting for a fourth season in Pittsburgh, this selection would be unlikely to change that. Matt Goncalves would serve as a quality depth piece who would have a chance to work into a starting role if things go south with Moore in 2024.
