The Steelers are at the low point of their season at 7-6 and might not win many games the rest of the way. It seems like this team could have a better draft choice than many thought they would just a week ago. That could open the door for a quarterback depending on how the rest of the season goes. It is the most important position in football and this team needs one.
There are plenty of reasons for the Steelers to move on from Kenny Pickett
Unless Mike Tomlin gets fired and the team implodes the rest of their remaining schedule, it seems like Kenny Pickett's job might be safe for now. It doesn't make much sense when you look at his work as the Steelers starting quarterback for nearly a season and a half of play. Some will say that he needs an offensive coordinator or just a little more time to develop, but that's not a great strategy.
Truth is that Pittsburgh has lucked out and won their seven games and Pickett has not put on a performance like a franchise guy should. Yes, young quarterbacks will make mistakes and have bad games, but Pickett has not been able to have a single-quality performance yet. Even some backup quarterbacks like Jake Browning have already had better games than Pickett.
Carson Beck could be an interesting name if he enters the 2024 draft
Right now, Carson Beck has not announced if he will return to Georgia and the Bulldog program or if he will enter the NFL Draft. It seems like he is leaning towards returning to Georgia, and that might make the most sense for his development. He has a great size for a quarterback in today's game, but he is coming off his lone season as the starter.
Beck is only a Junior and could return and remain a young quarterback prospect for the draft in 2025. He might be able to boost his draft stock higher by remaining in school, but he could be an interesting target for the Steelers if he does declare for the draft. Beck is mostly a pocket passer, but he has been able to show some movement there. Quality quarterback, but would likely be a project.
