Steelers-Cowboys weather delay: Latest updates and start time

To cap off the Week 5 Sunday slate, the Pittsburgh Steelers were set to host the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football. However, as kickoff time got closer and closer, the weather didn't necessarily agree with the NFL's calendar.

Prior to the game kicking off at its scheduled time of 8:20 p.m. ET, the National Weather Service issued a few warnings of which included:

• Hazardous Weather Conditions
• Severe Thunderstorm Watch (Until 11:00 p.m. ET)
• Severe Thunderstorm Warning (Until 9:00 p.m. ET)

Players were sent back into their respective locker rooms and were told they must now wait until the warnings subside. Once it clears up a bit and they receive the green light from the league, this game will get going as scheduled. This is now the second prime time weather delay of this early season, with the first coming between the Chiefs and Ravens in Week 1.

You can see via the radar photo below, this storm is coming straight through where Acrisure Stadium is located. It's not ideal for the fans to have to wait a little longer, but it's the right call.

With some severe weather going on for what looks like the majority of the game, now, that's going to have a big impact on these two teams. The Steelers are the more physical team, overall, and the Cowboys are missing some crucial names on defense. Without guys like Micah Parsons and Demarcus Lawrence, plus being down two cornerbacks, Dallas is going to be hurting.

That's going to set the stage for a physical, run-first game from Pittsburgh, led by Najee Harris and of course the wheels of Justin Fields.

We may not see thoroughly effective passing games in this one if it gets too wet, which again, will favor the more physical team that can run the ball well. Dallas will be leaning on Rico Dowdle and an aging Ezekiel Elliott -- that bodes well for the Steelers' chances, here.

How long will Steelers-Cowboys be delayed?

At the moment, it has been reported the game is under a 30-minute weather delay. Per NFL officials in the press box, the delay is officially due to lightning. That means kickoff should be right around 8:50 p.m. ET at this point.

When Justin Fields, T.J. Watt, and company are ready to lace 'em up and strap on those helmets, we'll let you know.

Update 8:58 p.m. ET: More lightning reported from the field, meaning, more delay. Typically, they need to wait 20 minutes after the last strike and then 20 minutes for warmups. That would put us at a 9:38 p.m. ET kickoff, at the earliest.

Update: Game is expected to kick off at 9:45 p.m. ET
