While we anxiously await to see who the Steelers choose with their first pick Thursday, it has become evident that Omar Khan and Mike Tomlin have contingency plans in effect. Everyone has been out there guessing as to whether the Steelers will trade up or stay at 17.

Perhaps you are wondering if they will target the cornerback position or address the offensive line, or do they have another player in mind? Well, in this year's draft, it now appears they may have four players in mind.

It now seems apparent that Mike Tomlin and Omar Khan have devised a strategy to get the player they want depending on the draft unfolds. It would appear they have 2-3 particular favorite players, each addressing a particular position of need. If they are off the board when the Steelers are on the clock, they have at least two alternates they will take in a backup plan. Here is the possible plan they have in place.

Scenario #1: Steelers get aggressive for Paris Johnson Jr.

There is no secret the Steelers have a keen interest in Paris Johnson. It seems that of all the offensive linemen out there, they have him ranked first. The problem is the Steelers are not the only team that like Johnson. So this may be the Steelers first plan in the draft.

They will try to trade up to acquire Johnson. We know they have talked with the Bears but don’t know the possibility of that happening. If not the Bears, maybe the Falcons, but if they want to land Johnson, they must trade up no lower than 9th.
