Steelers Draft: Predicting most-likely routes for pick 32 in the NFL Draft
If Steelers go offensive line in Round 1:
Now suppose the Steelers do make a move or manage to get an offensive lineman with the first pick; then that opens up a cornerback to consider with the 32nd selection in addition to the other potential players listed above.
Kelee Ringo CB, Georgia
In a recent press conference, Omar Kahn stated that he felt that with the free agent moves they made, they have plugged enough holes that they do not have to focus on taking one specific position with their draft picks. There is some degree of truth to that. The acquisition of Patrick Peterson lessened the need to take a cornerback immediately. Thus Ringo could be a solid pick at 32. He would not have to start immediately and can learn from Peterson while giving the Steelers some depth in case of injuries. Plus, we know the Steelers have scouted Ringo closely. Taking him at 32 wouldn’t be surprising.
Emmanuel Forbes, CB, Mississippi State
The last of the cornerbacks we know is on the Steelers list that they have been scouting closely. Forbes has a lot of athleticism and played three sports in high school. He is competitive and an excellent pass defender, a starter at Georgia since his freshman season. He loves throwing his body around as a tackler and can even be a good defender when the opposition rushes the ball as well. That would explain why some teams might consider taking him in the first round. However, at 32, he could be on the board, and if so, the Steelers might consider taking him.
Suppose the Steelers can keep that important 32nd pick in conjunction with whoever they get in the first round. In that case, there is a credible chance the 2023 draft can quickly turn around the Steelers to where they are no longer in a rebuilding stage and put them back in the position where they are back in the playoffs on a seasonal basis.
