Steelers Final Mock Offseason: Pittsburgh stays busy with massive moves in 2024
The black and gold make some splashes on the Defensive side of the ball
With Ogunjobi gone, the Steelers feel the pressure of signing a top defensive lineman in free agency. They accomplish that task and bring D.J. Reader on board on a two-year deal that pays him 15 million per year. That's a splash made on the open market for the Steelers. They need some better options to start next to Cam Heyward and company. Reader is a big upgrade in the trenches.
Another big name jumps over to the Steel City as Kevin Byard signs a one-year deal with Pittsburgh. His value is at an all-time low as he is coming off of being a cap casualty. He was traded to the Eagles mid-season and for one reason or another, things did not work out. Byard gets a chance to rejuvenate his career next to Minkah Fitzpatrick next season.
The Steelers find their upgrade at outside cornerback opposite Joey Porter Jr. on the free agency market. They sign Sean Murphy-Bunting to a two-year deal that pays him a little under seven million per season. He might not have the perfect stats as a starter, but he played on a bad team in Tennessee last year. He should be able to thrive as the second corner opposite of Porter.
A couple of quick signings here as Shaquille Leonard signs with the Steelers on a two-year deal that doesn't break the bank. He will try to bring his high-profile level back to Pittsburgh. They also go out and sign Tommy Townsend to a two-year contract that gets him the punting job. He has had great numbers throughout his career, which has taken place in cold environments.
