Steelers Final Mock Offseason: Pittsburgh stays busy with massive moves in 2024
Steelers mock draft round 3 (Via Panthers): Devontez Walker, WR, North Carolina
With Pittsburgh trading away Johnson earlier in the offseason, they must find a replacement. They added Brown to upgrade their slot role, but they need to find an outside receiver. We know that the Steelers have shown plenty of interest in early-round receivers in the upcoming draft to date. They will do a lot of homework on the position before the draft comes around.
It will be big shoes to fill if the team trades Johnson away, but they were willing to go that route in this mock offseason. They take Devontez Walker out of North Carolina to fill those shoes. He will play alongside Pickens and Brown and should be able to slide in nicely. The black and gold have expressed interest in this player during the pre-draft process thus far.
The interest is there, and Walker is a quality receiver who should be able to start for them on day one. One thing that some will be critical one is that Walker is coming out of college early and hasn't provided huge yardage numbers since his jump to the ACC. He was able to tally a lot of touchdowns during his lone year at North Carolina, but he was not able to get close to the 1,000-yard marker.
Walker is a tall receiver who showcases a ton of speed. He ran a 4.36-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. He is an athletic guy that the Steelers would love to have on their offense as a potential deep threat. The only issue with Walker would be if any of these quarterbacks on the roster could get him the ball deep down the field.
