Steelers could upgrade safety with Adrian Amos

The safety market has been a cooler one than most expected. While some large names entered free agency, there has been a general lack of big deals, and some of the top names look like bargains. This should benefit the Steelers, as they could add a capable strong safety to complete their safety trio.

Though Edmunds could certainly return, Adrian Amos would be an overall upgrade at safety. While less of a box player, Amos is a far more complete defender and is an established starter. Outside of injuries, Amos has been an every-down starter since his rookie season. While he isn’t an elite playmaker, he can hold his own in coverage and in run defense.

With the safety market being so cool right now, adding Amos on a cheap deal makes a lot of sense. He can form a capable duo with Minkah Fitzpatrick and allow Damontae Kazee to be more of a third option and even kick into the slot. He would be a huge addition to a secondary that is looking weak after free agency.

While the majority of the big names are signed, the Steelers can and should still be looking for some more additions to this roster. These all of these names wouldn’t start, but it would help fill out the depth chart and provide the team with more options than they currently have.
