In Conclusion

I went cornerback with the 1st pick because there are three teams picking ahead of the Steelers who have a dire need for an offensive tackle. I figure the Big 3, Paris Johnson, Peter Skoronski, and Broderick Jones will be off the board. If Jones or Johnson are available they’d be my first pick and CB Kelee Ringo would be my pick at 32. Other than that I stand pat with my mock.

As I said, new General Manager Omar Khan has blown up my draft a few times over. He's been very busy. We're yet to see how much of the moves are by design and which are 'change for change' sake. One thing is for sure, Khan's a mover-shaker.

I can’t blame, Khan, for getting outbid on Cam Sutton. Sutton is around a six to seven-million-a-year player. He’s CB2/Slot guy. He’s worth nowhere near the three-year $33 million the Lions paid him… But, I really wish the Steelers had re-signed Terrell Edmunds. Yes, he was never worth a 1st Rd pick but he’s an above average strong safety who is good at all phases of the game. He's also very affordable. It’s pretty clear he wanted to stay in Pittsburgh and I’m guessing the Eagles will quickly figure out they have a quality player and we’ll never see him again.

Letting Edmunds and WR/Return Specialist Steven Sims go and letting them go for so cheap, $3.5 million for both, was a big mistake. That and losing very capable reserve interior lineman J.C. Hassenauer are the biggest blunders of Omar Khan’s young GM tenure. They create roster holes that never needed to be there.

While I was writing this Khan pulled one more move bringing veteran WR, Allen Robinson for a swap of 7th Rounders. This with the Peterson signing proves he values veterans. That’s something Colbert really never did. I'm sure he wants some veterans like Robinson and Peterson around to help develop this young roster.

You can see Kahn is putting his stamp on the team. If nothing else, the Steelers off-season has been more exciting than under the staid Kevin Colbert. Kahn’s first draft is coming up and it’ll be exciting to see what happens. What do you think of this mock? What players and positions do you think the Steelers should target?
