Steelers mock draft round 2: CB DJ Turner

Sure, it would seem a bit bizarre for the Steelers to take players from the same school with back-to-back picks (in the same round, no less). However, I don't want to look too deeply into that. Back in 2019, Pittsburgh was okay with double-dipping at a Michigan school they loved for LB Devin Bush and TE Zach Gentry.

What we do know is that this team desperately needs someone who can play nickel cornerback. At 5'11'' and 178 pounds with just 30 3/4'' arms, DJ Turner projects as a nickel cornerback at the next level. But don't let his lack of size fool you. This is a good football player.

If Pittsburgh happens to miss out on the first few waves of cornerbacks, Turner could be a solid consolation prize. With phenomenal 4.26 speed, Turner would instantly be the fastest defender on the field and wouldn't be a liability in coverage like too many others on the team.

With Cameron Sutton gone, Arthur Maulet is the only other cornerback on the roster who plays the slot role in nickel and dime. Pittsburgh desperately needs an upgrade here, and DJ Turner would be an excellent fit in this role.
