Steelers mock draft round 7: EDGE Byron Young

Not to be confused with the Alabama DL prospect coming out this year of the same name, Byron Young is an athletic, but undersized edge defender of the Tennessee Volunteers. With remarkable athletics traits that include 4.43 speed and an 11' broad jump, it's hard to envision a player with these traits falling this far.

However, Young stands just over 6'2'' and 250 pounds with less than ideal 32 1/2'' arms. Some teams that value length on the edge may have him off their board because of this, while others may view him as an off-ball linebacker.

Young had solid tackle-for-loss production in two college seasons, but he's also getting a very late start to his career. Young turned 25 years old recently and is one of the oldest players set to enter the 2023 NFL Draft.

If this doesn't bother the Steelers in round seven (and it shouldn't), Young could be snatched up here as a special teamer with a potential hybrid role down the line. At this point, you are just looking for players who could make your roster, and Young will have a chance to do that thanks to the lack of depth at the edge defender position for the Steelers.
