Steelers mock draft round 4: Kamari Lassiter, CB, Georgia

Is it absurd to think that the Pittsburgh Steelers could select another cornerback in the middle of the 2024 NFL Draft? Certainly not according to what we have witnessed on the field this season. What about doubling up on George Players this early? Of course not; the Steelers did so just last year with Broderick Jones and Darnell Washington in the first three rounds of the draft.

After finding a twitchy and athletic CB who can serve as the team's slot cornerback, I have Pittsburgh taking another cornerback in the fourth round of my seven-round Steelers mock draft. Kamari Lassiter doesn't have the same freakish length of physical gifts as a player like Joey Porter Jr. But he's got a solid frame for a boundary cornerback and a well-balanced skill set.

The Steelers are likely to move on from Patrick Peterson next offseason in an effort to save cap space, while Levi Wallace is not under contract for 2024 (nor should he be). As a fourth-round pick, Lassiter could come in and compete with young cornerbacks like Cory Trice Jr. (who will miss his entire rookie season with an ACL tear) and Darius Rush (if he can stick around next offseason).

It's entirely possible that the Steelers look for a starting cornerback in free agency next March, but even if they find one, they need a lot more depth at the position. Mike Tomlin and Omar Khan obviously feel comfortable drafting Georgia players, and Lassiter has the mentality at the CB position they are looking for.
