Steelers mock draft round 4: Matt Goncalves, OT, Pittsburgh

Speaking of players in their own backyard, the Pittsburgh Steelers have a need at offensive tackle and they could express interest in a player like Pittsburgh's Matt Goncalves if they haven't addressed the position by this point in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Goncalves is a former four-star recruit coming out of high school in 2019. While he isn't an elite athlete, Goncalves is still quick off the ball with some flexibility in his game. It also helps that he's got prototype size for the tackle position in the NFL, as he is listed at 6'6'' and 330 pounds.

We all know just how big of a need the Steelers have at the offensive tackle position. Chukwuma Okorafor was demoted early in the season, and he's unlikely to be on Pittsburgh's roster by the time of the NFL Draft. Meanwhile, Dan Moore Jr. just isn't cutting it for Pittsburgh and it's clear that he belongs back on the bench as a swing tackle.

The Steelers could invest in this position much higher and potentially even in free agency. Broderick Jones certainly shows promise. Drafting versatile tackle like Matt Goncalves could allow Jones to kick back over to the right side while Goncalves battles it out with Moore and whichever other tackle the Steelers elect to bring in this offseason.
