We are now entering the most stagnant stretch of the calendar year for football fans. The NFL Draft is well in the rearview mirror, while OTAs and minicamps have wrapped up. Fans won't be able to see the Pittsburgh Steelers in action again until training camp kicks off on July 27th. Though the next five weeks promise to be slow, the front office is still keeping busy.

After adding linebacker Nick Kwiatkowski and long snapper Rex Sunahara, it looks like Pittsburgh is making a much more notable roster move. Here's the latest Steelers news.

Steelers news:

The Pittsburgh Steelers might be thinning out their wide receiver depth just a bit. Early this week, veteran receiver Anthony Miller apparently waved goodbye to the organization in a not-so-cryptic tweet. On Tuesday evening, the Steelers officially announced his release.

Miller missed the entire 2022 season as he was on injured reserve with a shoulder injury. Now 28 years old and with only 25 total receiving yards since 2020, Miller is out of a job and looking for work. He was dealing with a soft tissue injury during organized team activities which may have been the nail in the coffin of his shortlived Steelers career.

This setback was the last thing that the veteran wide receiver needed. Miller was a former second-round pick by the Chicago Bears back in 2018, but the injury bug bit hard over the past few seasons.

With Allen Robinson II and Calvin Austin III expected to play the slot this year, Miller may have had a difficult time cracking the final roster in 2023 -- even if he stuck around throughout training camp and the preseason.

More Steelers news:

With one veteran receiver leaving, another is taking advantage of his opportunities. The Pittsburgh Steelers traded for Allen Robinson less than ten days before the 2023 NFL Draft, and he is expected to carve out a role on offense.

Now Robinson is already building chemistry with second-year quarterback, Kenny Pickett. This should continue prior to training camp, as Pro Football Talk reports that the wide receiver plans on working out with Pickett in New Jersey prior to the start of Steelers training camp. This should prove to be a wise move from the veteran as he looks to get in the good graces of his quarterback. ahead of the season. Robinson is looking for a bounce-back year.

NFL news:

In NFL news, the 2023 trade deadline has officially been announced. Jonathan Jones of NFL on CBS reports that the trade deadline will be on October 31st at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time. All trades must be finalized by this time on Halloween.

The Steelers have had plenty of success trading before the deadline in recent years -- landing Minkah Fitzpatrick in 2019 and trading Chase Claypool for the pick that turned into Joey Porter Jr. just hours before the deadline in 2022. They have plenty of incentives to continue to stay active when it comes to trades.
