Steelers news: Diontae Johnson trade rumors, Allen Robinson trade official, and more
By Tommy Jaggi
It's been a crazy week for Pittsburgh Steelers fans. With the 2023 NFL Draft on the horizon, Omar Khan and Andy Weidl aren't spending a minute to kick back their feet and rest before the chaos ensues next Thursday.
Earlier in the week, Pittsburgh swapped out four scheduled pre-draft visits in order to meet with high-profile draft prospects like OT Broderick Jones, DT Bryan Bresee, OT Darnell Wright, and TE Darnell Washington. Now with exactly a week before the kickoff of the NFL Draft, controversy is brewing over the latest rumors. Here's the Steelers news you need to know.
Steelers news:
On Wednesday afternoon, Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan chatted with Pro Football Talk regarding the trade for Allen Robinson. Despite an unspectacular year from the veteran receiver in 2022 on the Rams, PFT believes that it's 'entirely possible' Diontae Johnson gets traded now that the Steelers have some depth at the wide receiver position.
Many in Steelers media were quick to jump on these comments on Twitter -- saying that this would be an insane decision to trade away the top pass-catcher for quarterback Kenny Pickett. These Steelers trade rumors are nothing more than speculation at this point, and there have been no official reports that Pittsburgh would even be interested in entertaining phone calls for a potential Diontae Johnson trade.
More Steelers news:
Speaking of Allen Robinson, the veteran wide receiver did pass his physical and is officially a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dianna Russini of ESPN reports. Robinson started all 10 games he appeared in this past season, but managed just 339 yards and 33 receptions on 59 targets, per ESPN stats.
Robinson is only two years removed from a 100-catch, 1,200-yard season with the Bears, and the Steelers are hoping that he returns to form following back-to-back seasons that were cut short by injuries. Robinson is expected to be the team's third receiver and man slot duties in 2023 with his reliable hands and toughness after the catch.
NFL news:
Bill Barnwell of ESPN released his most recent first-round mock draft with all trades ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft. Barnwell has the Pittsburgh Steelers trading back from pick 17 to pick 21 and acquiring an extra third-round pick in the process. The ESPN analyst thinks the Vikings could try to move up for quarterback Hendon Hooker, while Pittsburgh may like to trade back for additional draft capital.
