We are halfway through NFL Combine performances, and the Pittsburgh Steelers have already met with dozens of players. After scoping out the best defensive prospects in the class, Omar Khan and his crew will set their sights on the skill players today.

More meetings and comments continue to flood in as Pittsburgh prepares for another busy day in Indianapolis. Here's the latest Steelers news you need to know as it pertains to the 2023 NFL Combine.

Steelers news

Outside of maybe only Joey Porter Jr., no NFL Draft prospect has been talked about in connection to the Steelers as much as Jordan Addison. Addison has obvious connections to the city of Pittsburgh and QB Kenny Pickett thanks to his playing days in Pitt before transferring to USC last year.

Recently, Nick Farabaugh of Pittsburgh Sports Now reported that Addison had a formal meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers. When asked what it would be like to play in Pittsburgh, Addison responded 'Come get me.'

Based on the other pressing team needs, Addison doesn't seem like the most likely selection for Pittsburgh at pick 17, but the formal meeting with the talented wide receiver at least puts him on the draft radar.

In other Steelers news, formal meetings between Pittsburgh's brass and high-profile prospects continue at the NFL Combine. After meeting with a plethora of defensive backs, the Steelers had meetings with a number of receivers yesterday.

Interestingly, Pittsburgh also met with top-flight tight end prospect, Michael Mayer. The Notre Dame star is an old-school tight end who can bully defenders at the point of attack and catches everything you throw to him over the middle of the field. Mayer is projected to go anywhere from the middle of the first round to very early in the second round this year. He's the complete package at tight end.

NFL news

Defensive performances at the NFL Combine have now wrapped up, and Pitt star, Calijah Kancey, still remains a hot topic. Measuring in at just 6'1'' and 281 pounds, Kancey is small for a defensive tackle, but he blazed with an official 4.67 in the 40-yard dash.

Because of his frame and exceptionally rare athletic traits, Kancey has drawn comparisons to former Pitt star and future NFL Hall of Famer, Aaron Donald. It's worth mentioning that Kancey's 30 5/8'' arms are the fourth-smallest on record at the NFL Combine for interior defenders. He's an outlier prospect because of his lack of size and length, but teams will be intrigued by what he offers.
