It was a quiet bye week for the Pittsburgh Steelers (too quiet, in fact). Many of us were hoping to hear news of big changes from Mike Tomlin as this team entered Week 6 -- one of which would have been a change at offensive coordinator. However, Tomlin made it clear that he has no intention of moving on from Matt Canada during the season.
Though there wasn't much news to report last week when it came to the Steelers, we suddenly have a flood of updates early in the week. Most are encouraging, while others will leave you questioning the coaching staff. Here's the latest Steelers news.
Steelers news:
According to the latest report from Dale Lolley of Steelers.com, tight end Pat Freiermuth is expected to return to the field this week when the Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Rams in Los Angeles for their Week 7 matchup.
Pat Freiermuth suffered a hamstring pull in the Week 4 road loss to the Houston Texans. This caused him to miss the time late in the game. Freiermuth would also miss the following game against the Ravens due to the injury.
The bye week no doubt came at a good time for the Steelers tight end, as he was given another week to rest before returning to the field. Wide receiver Diontae Johnson -- who has been sidelined since Week 1 with a hamstring injury -- is expected to join Freiermuth on the field this week.
More Steelers news:
Freiermuth isn't the only player the Steelers are getting back. Defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal has cleared concussion protocol, per Brooke Pryor of ESPN. He should be good to go for Week 7.
Additionally, Dan Moore Jr. is back at practice after suffering an MCL sprain against Houston in Week 4. Like Freiermuth, Moore missed the following game against the Ravens. While fans should be happy to have the added depth this week, Moore's return is already being met with controversy.
According to reports, Moore is back to taking first-team reps at left tackle for the Steelers. While this doesn't mean that Broderick Jones is going back to the bench, fans are wondering why Jones isn't getting the reps with the starters after such a promising game against the Ravens in Week 5.
Moore has struggled all season prior to the injury whereas most agreed that Jones looked very promising in his first NFL start. Going back to Moore would be a questionable choice that would certainly not be received well by the fanbase.
NFL news:
Antonio Brown is once again making headlines for all of the wrong reasons. The former Pittsburgh Steelers star receiver has been arrested over the weekend after failing to pay child support to the mother of one of his children, per WPLG Local 10 News.
Seeing Brown make headlines has become too commonplace these days, and it's almost always something negative. This isn't the first time that Brown has been in trouble with the law for unpaid child support. Add this to the laundry list of run-ins Brown has had with law enforcement over the years.
