Last week was wild for Pittsburgh Steelers fans. When it seemed like the team was going to be mostly quiet, the opposite prove to be true. We are now a week removed from the start of free agency and further than that from the kickoff of the legal tampering period. As the free agency frenzy slowly dies down, the NFL Draft buzz is starting to heat up.

The Steelers haven't made any free agent signings thus far this week, but that doesn't mean that they are done looking for talent. For now, we shift our attention to what's happening on the scouting trail with Mike Tomlin and Omar Khan and take a look at some interesting picks in the newest mock drafts. Here's the latest Steelers news.

Steelers news:

A pair of mock drafts from prominent media outlets had the Steelers going with cornerbacks with the 17th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN has Pittsburgh going with Maryland cornerback Deonte Banks after the top corners were off the board by pick 17. Banks hits all the size thresholds and he tested as a freak athlete at the NFL Combine with a 4.35 speed and a remarkable 11'4'' broad jump.

Pro Football Focus also has the Steelers going with a cornerback in their latest mock draft. On the PFF NFL Show, analysts Sam Monson and Steve Palazzolo collectively agree on a trade back that has Pittsburgh moving back to the 27th overall pick and taking CB Emmanuel Forbes. The Mississippi State prospect has major concerns about his weight (166 pounds) but has excellent film, athleticism, and ball skills for the position.

More Steelers news:

Mike Tomlin and Omar Khan continue a busy stretch that started early last week. After visiting Clemson, Georgia, and Michigan for Pro Days, they made their way west to the Cyclone State. On Monday, Tomlin and Khan were scoping out the talent at Iowa's Pro Day. Yesterday, Pittsburgh's brass was on hand at Iowa State's Pro Day.

Iowa had a packed house as coaches and executives were on hand to watch players like EDGE Lukas Van Ness, LB Jack Campbell, TE Sam LaPorta, and CB Riley Moss (among others). Iowa State, meanwhile, doesn't have nearly as much high-profile talent set to hit the NFL Draft, but EDGE Will McDonald is a very possible first-round pick. We can go ahead and add a few more players to the list of possible selections for Pittsburgh at pick 17, as they now check the box when it comes to Pro Day visits.

NFL news:

Cam Newton was on hand at Auburn's Pro Day, and the former MVP quarterback is teasing a return to the NFL. Newton played his most recent football in 2021 at the age of 32 with the Panthers where he went 0-5 as a starter while throwing just 4 touchdown passes. Prior to that, he started 15 games with the Patriots in 2020 and earned a 7-8 record to go with his 8 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. At this point, Newton may have a hard time finding a suitor who will view him as a starter for their team.
