The Pittsburgh Steelers are still trying to shake off the sting of some questionable draft picks late in the tenure of Kevin Colbert. Spending elite draft capital on players like Devin Bush and Terrell Edmunds proved to be a mistake, and it looks like Kenny Pickett is one of many names joining that conversation.

Fortunately, the 2023 NFL Draft seemed to be a big step in the right direction. Under the direction of new general manager Omar Khan and assistant GM Andy Weidl, Pittsburgh struck gold in the draft, and their swings on talented players and taking the BPA approach (Best Player Available) looks like it's going to pan out.

Now they would love to repeat this success over the next few years to build a rock-solid foundation for this roster. Let's take a look at the picks that will be at their disposal in the NFL Draft for this year and beyond.

List of Steelers NFL Draft picks in 2024

  • Round 1, No. 20 overall
  • Round 2, No. 51 overall
  • Round 3, No. 84 overall
  • Round 3, No. 98 overall (via PHI)
  • Round 4, No. 119 overall
  • Round 6, No. 178 overall (via ARI)
  • Round 6, No. 195 overall

The Steelers have seven selections in the 2024 NFL Draft, but not all of them are the original picks they were appointed. Pittsburgh no longer has their original fifth-rounder. This pick was traded to the Rams as part of a pick-swap deal that was included during the Kevin Dotson trade.

The Steelers previously held the 120th overall pick from the Rams, but this selection was packaged in the Kenny Pickett trade. In return, Pittsburgh received the 98th overall selection in the third round (which is a compensatory pick) as well as two future seventh-round picks.

Pittsburgh also moved up in the draft thanks to the Diontae Johnson trade -- swapping their seventh-round pick for a sixth-round pick (which originally belonged to the Arizona Cardinals).

Having five selections inside the top 120 picks and all seven selections inside the top 200 picks in the 2024 NFL Draft should help give their roster a boost ahead of next season.

Looking ahead to 2025, the Steelers are expected to have a full slate of draft picks with a few additions. As part of the pick-swap deal that saw Kevin Dotson being traded to the Rams, the Steelers will also get a fifth-round pick from Los Angeles in 2025.

Additionally, Pittsburgh will get the sixth-round pick of the Houston Texans in the 2025 NFL Draft after trading Kendrick Green to them in 2023. This will give them plenty of ammunition to work with. There were also a few Day 3 conditional picks (from the William Jackson III trade with the Commanders and the Jesse Davis trade with the Vikings) that are expected to be voided.

On top of already having solid draft capital for in 2025, the Steelers received a pair of seventh-round picks from the Philadelphia Eagles as part of the Kenny Pickett trade.
