Steelers officially make the playoffs with the Titans win over Jaguars
By Tommy Jaggi
It's official! The Pittsburgh Steelers will be in the 2024 NFL Playoffs! Following their win over the Baltimore Ravens in the Week 18 season finale, the Steelers needed to wait on the results of Sunday's games to see whether or not they would get a chance to compete in the postseason.
It didn't take long. Because the Colts-Texans game did not end in a tie, the Steelers either needed the Jaguars or Bills to lose their season finale to make the NFL Playoffs this year. During the 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time slate, the Titans got off to a rocking start against the Jaguars.
Jacksonville rallied late, as Trevor Lawrence came up inches short of breaking the plane of the endzone on a QB sneak on 4th down. With under two minutes remaining the Jags had a chance to even the score with a touchdown and successful two-point conversion, but they turned the ball over on downs and the Titans milked the final second off the clock.
Steelers Wild Card opponent TBD following Sunday Night Football
With a Titans upset win in the early afternoon slate in Week 18, the Pittsburgh Steelers are officially in the NFL Playoffs. However, their opponent will not be decided until the results of Sunday Night Football is finalized.
Tonight, the Bills will take on the Dolphins in Miami. thanks to the Results of Sunday's games, Buffalo cannot be eliminated from the playoffs (which means they don't have quite as much to play for tonight). Still, they could flip positions with Miami for the AFC East crown.
If the Bills win, the Steelers will be playing in Buffalo next week for the Wild Card round of the NFL Playoffs. If the Dolphins win, however, Mike Tomlin's team will be making the trip to Arrowhead Stadium to take on the Kansas City Chiefs. There is no longer a scenario in which the Steelers would have to face the Miami Dolphins in the Wild Card round of the NFL Playoffs.
Regardless of what happens tonight, the Pittsburgh Steelers have officially entered the postseason. Now the big storyline is tracking T.J. Watt's health to see if there's any chance he can suit up in the Wild Card round after suffering a Grade 2 MCL sprain against the Ravens in the season finale.
Either way, the Steelers will have a chance to win their first playoff game in six years. Stay tuned to see which opponent they will be getting in the first round of the playoffs.
