Steelers mock draft round 4: EDGE Habakkuk Baldonado

It's hard to know exactly what the Pittsburgh Steelers intend to do in free agency this year. If they once again ignore addressing the edge defender position, then this will become a sizeable priority in the NFL Draft.

While I can't see the Steelers dipping their feet in the EDGE pool early with T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith on the roster, the depth was abysmal last year and it really got them in a jam in the first half of the season when Watt was on IR with a pectoral injury.

For this reason, I wouldn't be surprised to see Pittsburgh go after a player like Habakkuk Baldonado in the mid-rounds. At 6'4'' and 251 pounds with 33'' arms, Baldonado shares remarkably similar size and athletic traits to Highsmith coming out of Charlotte back in 2020.

The Steelers need a third edge defender who actually warrants snaps on defense, and Baldonado is right in their own backyard -- having played his college ball at Pitt. This would secure depth at a premier position.
