Even though the Steelers won their opening game of the season, it was not pretty getting across the finish line. Much like last year, they held onto a tight lead and found a way to hang on at the end. It might not have been easy, but a win is what every team is looking for when the clock strikes zero. The Falcons proved to be a tough task for Pittsburgh.

Some players stood out among their teammates while others had a tough day at the office. It was a game full of unknowns for the Steelers, and for the most part, they answered the bell for this past weekend's performance. They were up to the challenge and the Falcons were not able to come up with enough answers to win the football game.

Steelers offense report card grade: B-

A lot to dissect here, but let's start with quarterback Justin Fields. He was shoved into action last minute, but after a shaky start, he calmed himself down. He played turnover-free football and helped the team get down the field. The offensive line played a quality game and kept him and the running game moving in the right direction.

Najee Harris had a terrific performance that isn't getting talked about enough. It helped alleviate pressure off of Fields and the passing attack. Arthur Smith showed what a real NFL offense is supposed to look like. Only scoring field goals is concerning as the Steelers move forward, but they at least did enough on offense to win the game.

Steelers defense report card grade: A-

All compliments go to the defense for Pittsburgh. They played well and caused multiple turnovers which led to points. T.J. Watt cannot be talked about enough when it comes to what he means to the Steelers team. He is their best player and might be nearly as impactful as a quality quarterback. He is a game wrecker, and he did that in this one.

The defensive front for the Steelers did well for the totality of the game. Payton Wilson stood out, but the secondary of Pittsburgh was terrific for the most part. They knew Kirk Cousins was going to challenge them, and they were up to the task. Defending against the run showed some warts at times, but for the most part, they had a quality game as a group.

Steelers special teams report card grade: A+

It's not too common where you see the impact of special teams in an NFL game as much as Chris Boswell had. He was the MVP for the Steelers in this contest beyond Watt. He totaled every point for Pittsburgh's offense, which included a 57-yard bomb. He had a turbulent preseason, but he put those concerns to bed during his Week 1 performance.

Sadly, Cameron Johnston suffered a significant injury, but his punts before then were quality. Boswell did another amazing feat as he punted the ball after Johnston went down with an injury. It wasn't a huge punt, but it was decent enough by Boswell who has no NFL experience doing it.

Scotty Miller had a big hold during the game-sealing field goal. The coverage was good overall. Christian Kuntz provided good snaps throughout the game.
