Steelers should be calling Dolphins about a blockbuster trade right now

While it has only been three weeks, the Steelers may have found their quarterback with Justin Fields. He hasn’t been perfect, but he has done more than the team could have expected with him starting on short notice. As the offense has opened up, so has Fields play, leading to his best performance of the year against the Chargers.
While veteran Russell Wilson was in the pole position for the entire offseason, his injury should have cost him his job at this point. It would be frustrating to see the team go to him despite an undefeated record and good play from Fields. While trading him would be a bit of a surprise, the perfect partner may have just materialized.
The Steelers need to be having conversations with the Dolphins
Miami was one of the AFC favorites this offseason. Their offense was dynamic last year and they added resources to make their defense better this offseason. They looked to be a sleeper Super Bowl team as long as injuries didn’t materialize.
Unfortunately for them, they did. Tua Tagovailoa suffered another scary concussion and is set to miss some time. Miami is scraping together quarterback options, including using their primary backup Skylar Thompson, and signing Tyler Huntley. Thompson got the nod against the Seahawks and the results were ugly.
Wilson would provide a stable option to serve as the starter while Tagovailoa heals up. Thompson looked lost on Sunday, and while Huntley could help, he also won’t be playing in an offense suited to his skill set. The Ravens utilize a running quarterback which allowed Huntley to thrive when he started there. That isn’t the case with the Dolphins.
Wilson is also the better talent and could guide the Dolphins through their tough period right now. He wouldn’t have to be perfect, but he would give the team a better shot at winning games than any of their other options. For a contender that has an unsure quarterback room and a 1-2 record right now, that might become critical.
Compensation wouldn’t be anything crazy, but the extra picks could help ease the loss of the fourth-round pick that this team will lose with Fields starting all season. You do risk an injury to Fields of course, but displaying some confidence in him as a young starter is worth it to me. The Dolphins are desperate, and the Steelers could be quick to capitalize.
