Steelers spike in Week 4 NFL power rankings following back-to-back wins
By Tommy Jaggi
Following their abysmal Week 1 performance against the San Francisco 49ers, the Pittsburgh Steelers hit rock-bottom in the NFL power rankings. They were humiliated in a 30-7 blowout home loss, and the hope was that they would show continued improvement.
Over the past two weeks, the Steelers have started a slow ascension in the NFL power rankings. Here's a look at how the national NFL media views them in comparison to the rest of the league as we prepare for Week 4.
NFL Power Rankings: Steelers Week 4 roundup
NFL.com, Eric Edholm: 16th
Despite their win over the Raiders on Sunday Night Football, Eric Edholm of NFL.com has the Steelers increasing just one spot from his Week 3 power rankings. Edholm is certainly erring on the side of caution here, and he's one of the lowest I've seen on the Steelers in NFL power rankings following a second straight win for Pittsburgh.
CBS Sports, Pete Prisco: 11th
The seems to be a popular place to slot the Steelers ahead of Week 4. Pete Prisco of CBS Sports has the Steelers at 11th overall. This is a jump of five spots in the rankings from the previous week. Prisco has the Steelers leapfrogging teams like the Saints, Commanders, and Buccaneers.
ESPN, NFL Nation Staff: 11th
ESPN would concur with Prisco, as they also have the Steelers as the 11th-best team in the NFL entering Week 4 of the 2023 season. This is an improvement from Week 3 when they had a sloppy win over the Cleveland Browns. The staff at ESPN has the Steelers directly above the Packers, Buccaneers, and Chargers.
Sporting News, Vinnie Iyer: 11th
Vinnie Iyer of Sporting News currently has the Steelers locked into 11th in his NFL power rankings as well. He notes that the Steelers cleaned up things offensively against the Raiders and are up there with the Browns in the AFC North. He has Pittsburgh slotted about the Bucs, Seahawks, and Bengals.
USA Today is the highest that I've seen so far on the Pittsburgh Steelers. Nate Davis has Mike Tomlin's team at 7th overall -- slotting them above the Dallas Cowboys. This might be a little rich, in my opinion, but I love the optimism here. Davis points to a dominant T.J. Watt and Kenny Pickett who is finally showing signs of life as the reasoning for rankings the Steelers this high entering Week 4.
Tides can turn and things can shift rapidly in the NFL in just one week. Following a packed slate of games this weekend, it will be interesting to see where Pittsburgh winds up in the NFL power rankings. If they can beat the Texans and earn their third straight win, we would have to assume that they will skyrocket even higher in the power rankings.
