People will either get excited at this report or roll their eyes. It has been a long windy road when it comes to the trade reports surrounding the Steelers potentially acquiring a receiver via trade.
Tons of names have been thrown out there both on the trade market and free agency as potential options for the black and gold. Fans have heard names like Tyler Boyd, DK Metcalf, Courtland Sutton, Deebo Samuel, and plenty of others. If a receiver was potentially available, the Steelers were thrown out there as possible landing spots for those players.
As of now, Van Jefferson seems to be the second outside receiver for Pittsburgh heading into their first preseason game on Friday. George Pickens has enough talent to be a number one receiver in the NFL, but he has no help around him at the receiver position. They could use a major upgrade on the outside to help make their offense stronger.
After trading away Diontae Johnson this past offseason, the club seems like they might have failed to come up with a replacement plan. Right now, they have thrown a bunch of guys at the wall in hopes one of them sticks. That is the main reason why fans believe the Steelers will remain aggressive on the trade market.
It would be hard to imagine Pittsburgh trusting Jefferson as their only starting option going into the regular season.
According to a report, Brandon Aiyuk could be traded to the Steelers soon
According to Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 the fan, a local radio station in Pittsburgh, the team is close to acquiring Brandon Aiyuk from the San Francisco 49ers. This would be huge news for the Steelers if they were able to carry this trade across the finish line. It would give Pittsburgh another star receiver to provide an offensive punch.
One must be careful when listening to Fillipponi, as he has reported false news before. Make sure to take this report with a grain of salt, but there is another questionable source falling on this rumor. Does anyone remember Antonio Brown and his CTESPN Twitter handle?
Brown is now on this rumor train with Fillipponi of Aiyuk being in a trade to the Steelers sometime soon.
He tweeted out the same thing as Fillipponi did after sending out a tweet a couple of days ago hinting at a potential deal of Aiyuk to Pittsburgh. The tweet showed the star receiver in a Steelers uniform.
These two sources might not be the most reputable, but both of them have been able to break news surrounding the team in the past. These next couple of weeks will be vital for a potential trade to go down between the Steelers and any team out there with a top available receiver.
Omar Khan is always willing to make some trades, but he wants to make sure he isn't paying top dollar. If trade prices drop, expect the Steelers to jump on the best option they can. Don't forget that Aiyuk would likely want an extension attached to any trade out of San Francisco. That will cost a pretty penny as well.
