Steelers undervalued by Vegas in opening 2024 NFL playoff odds
It seems like no matter who is on the Pittsburgh Steelers' roster and how bad the general public thinks they are, Mike Tomlin finds a way to drag this team to the playoffs on an almost yearly basis.
Even in a stacked AFC last season, Tomlin led the injury-ridden Steelers to a 10-7 record and a spot in the postseason. Pittsburgh has now made the playoffs in three of the last four NFL seasons.
With that being the case, oddsmakers still don't have much faith in the Steelers returning to the postseason in 2024. They've released odds for all 32 teams to make the playoffs next season and the Steelers are being underrated and undervalued once again.
Steelers odds to make the playoffs
Steelers underrated in AFC playoff odds
The Steelers' odds at DraftKings Sportsbook to make the playoffs are set at +200. If you translate those odds to implied probability, Pittsburgh has a 33.33% chance of returning to the postseason in 2024.
I don't think many Steelers' fans would argue that they're Super Bowl contenders this upcoming season, but they have done enough in the first month of the offseason to make a playoff berth well within reach.
The Steelers have moved on from Kenny Pickett and acquired both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. Wilson is the frontrunner to be the team's quarterback in 2024, but Fields has plenty of time to win the starting gig. Regardless of who it is, a new QB could be the breath of life Pittsburgh's offense needs after a lackluster 2023.
The most notable acquisitions the Steelers have made have been on defense. They signed linebacker Patrick Queen and acquired cornerback Donte Jackson in a trade with the Panthers. Those two players alone will make a significant impact while giving T.J. Watt some much-needed help.
There's no arguing whether or not the Steelers have improved compared to last season, they certainly have. So, if a worse version of this team can make the playoffs, why can't the 2024 edition of the Steelers do the same?
The good news is that oddsmakers are allowing us to bet on it to happen at +200. That means if you were to wager $100 on Pittsburgh to make the playoffs, you'd win a profit of $200 ($300 total) if they can pull it off.
