T.J. Watt looks unrecognizable on Madden 24 promo video

It's far too easy these days to poke fun at the Madden video game franchise. Over the past decade, fans have voiced their frustration with the lack of effort EA Sports has geared toward trying to perfect their game. This is the problem with EA owning the exclusive video game rights of the NFL, as the lack of competitors has allowed them to get by with essentially dropping the same game with updated rosters each year.

Avid Madden fans are hoping that Madden 24 will be a big step up from what we've seen in recent years. However, the latest promo video isn't overly encouraging. The video consists of spotty tackling animations and is centered around new cover athlete, Josh Allen. But the biggest takeaway from the game trailer was that they did T.J. Watt dirty.

The Pittsburgh Steelers star and 2021 Defensive Player of the Year can be seen ever so briefly at the four-second mark of the video. Here's the full promo released by Madden NFL 24 on Twitter:

One fan account on Twitter took a screenshot of Watt from the promo video. Needless to say, Steelers fans aren't thrilled with how the game made him look.

This image caused many Steelers fans to respond -- some insisting that the game has never gotten his face scan right while others responded with sarcastic memes. Another fan quote-tweeted the image and insisted that this was just locally famous comedian, Pittsburgh Dad, but without his glasses.

I don't want to be too hard on the Madden 24 promo video here. I would rather the team at EA Sports spend most of their time fixing the game than worrying about advertising. Still, this isn't the encouraging sign fans were hoping to see.

Don't let flawed T.J. Watt image ruin your Madden experience

Without the black and gold jersey with the Steelers emblem plastered on it, T.J. Watt would have been mostly unrecognizable. His hair appears darker and is styled in a way that fans really haven't seen before.

But don't let this promo video detract from your Madden gaming experience. IGN reports that the company is making big changes, including bringing back the oh-so-popular mini-games, expanding franchise mode features, and adding crossplay between PC and consoles.

Madden 24 is scheduled to release on August 18th. This is always a highly anticipated video game release and the pressure is on EA Sports to deliver an improved NFL game in 2023. We may not have been able to easily recognize T.J. Watt from the promo video, but that doesn't mean that their newest installment of the Madden video game franchise will be a flop.
