T.J. Watt trains with brother J.J. ahead of Steelers training camp

  • Training on a golf course? Why not.
  • Iron sharpens iron when it comes to the Watt brothers

NFL training camps are just around the corner and while many players are enjoying their last few days away from work, T.J. Watt is putting in the work like it's mid-season. While it's important for players of every profession to take time to relax, the Pittsburgh Steelers star is getting a head start on training before the Pittsburgh Steelers training camp kicks off.

On Sunday, future Hall of Famer and recently retired defensive lineman, J.J. Watt, posted pictures of him and T.J. working out on what appears to be a golf course with the caption, 'Iron sharpens iron.'

My first thought was 'Why train on a golf course'? I can only imagine what golfers would have been thinking had they seen these two NFL stars practicing their pass-rush moves in the fairway. Probably something like clever photo edit in the replies to Watt's tweet:

All joking aside, it's always good to see T.J. out there training, and who better to coach him up in his pass-rush moves than one of the best defenders to ever play the game?

When it comes to technique and hand placement, it honestly doesn't seem like there's a lot that Watt should be working on. He's one of the more refined players in the game with an arsenal of pass-rush moves and an array of counters for every situation. But this is exactly the type of attitude you like to see.

T.J. Watt is putting in the work before Steelers camp

Despite being a former Defensive Player of the Year and three-time First-Team All-Pro, Watt is leading his Steelers teammates by example -- showing that there's always room for improvement, no matter your reputation or the number of personal accolades you already have under your belt.

Putting in some work ahead of training camp isn't abnormal. It's not like T.J. Watt is the only player out there who wants to show up to camp in shape. However, it would be very easy for a dominant player in his shoes who already has one of the biggest defensive contracts in the league to coast into Steelers training camp -- knowing that they are going to ease him into action anyway.

Watt has expressed multiple times in the past that the goal is to win a Super Bowl, and that he's going to do everything in his power to make sure that happens. I spoke with him personally in an interview in 2022, and it's so clear to see the grit and determination that this man possesses.

Watt had a pectoral injury that landed him on IR last season and forced him off the field for 7 games. He's looking to come back better than ever in 2023 and help lead the Pittsburgh Steelers to post-season success.
