The perfect two-round scenario for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2023 NFL Draft

Steelers round 2 (33rd overall via CHI): CB Cam Smith, South Carolina

Remember that this is a 'best case scenario;' not a 'most likely scenario. Even in an incredibly deep cornerback class at the top of the draft, I do think it's very reasonable that Cam Smith is gone by Pittsburgh's top selection in the second round.

Though this is listed as the 33rd pick, it's technically the 32nd selection in the 2023 NFL Draft (the Dolphins forfeited their first-round pick due to tampering). This is a very valuable selection, and the Steelers will have an entire day to sit on it before making their selection (or potentially trading back).

With the way the board could play out, Smith would likely be the best available player. Personally, I don't think he's much worse of a prospect than Joey Porter Jr., as he has excellent fluidity and ball skills for the CB position.

If the Steelers do miss out on Cam Smith here, Emmanuel Forbes is an excellent consolation prize. While Pittsburgh might be scared off by his narrow frame (just 166 pounds at the Combine), he's an elite athlete with outstanding film. If the Steelers wait any longer, the impact cornerbacks will all be gone and they will miss out on the exceptional wave of talent.
