What we learned from impressive Pittsburgh Steelers preseason win vs. Falcons
By Eric Hassel
The Steelers coaching staff should be lauded for getting us ready to play and for finishing on a high note
I realize that what we witnessed against the Falcons was the final 'dress rehearsal' for week one when results actually matter, but I think it's also important to understand that from a coaching perspective, Mike Tomlin and staff did an excellent job of getting the players ready to play.
Going undefeated in the preseason is nice, but generally doesn't mean anything except to a team that is still trying to find a rhythm on offense and trying to re-establish dominance on defense, both of which were on display during this preseason.
For those of you who have joined these discussions, you know that I am nothing if I am not objective. I call it who I see it. What I saw in the preseason was almost magical. The offense was efficient, we scored points, we possessed the ball and we generally controlled the line of scrimmage.
On defense, we forced turnovers, generated pressure that usually led to sacks, and held our three opponents to thirty-two points, which translates to an average of just under eleven points per game. If we can continue that kind of dominance during the regular season, it will prove to be a successful one.
Let's put a bow on the 2023 preseason as we await the start of the regular season when things 'get real' and things matter. Let's go Steelers!
