When does Kenny Pickett play Steelers in 2024 NFL season?
By Tommy Jaggi
The 2024 NFL schedule has been released, and the Pittsburgh Steelers have their work cut out for them this season. While we knew the opponents they were set to play in 2024 since January 9th, we didn't know the order in which the games would be played or when they would occur.
One game on the dock is particularly interesting. The Steelers will be facing the Philadelphia Eagles this year -- the new home of former first-round quarterback, Kenny Pickett.
Ironically, Pickett and the Steelers were smashed by the Eagles in Week 8 of the 2022 season when Pittsburgh was trampled on the road in a 35-13 loss. In this contest, Pickett completed 25 of 38 passes for a mere 191 yards while throwing an interception and taking 6 sacks.
Now the former 20th overall pick of the Steelers is on one of the most talented teams in the league, but will it make a difference when Pittsburgh plays Philadelphia this year?
Steelers will face Eagles on the road in Week 15
The Pittsburgh Steelers will stay in-state and travel to Philadelphia to face the Eagles in their Week 15 matchup. This game will be played on December 21st at 4:25 p.m. Eastern Time and will air on Fox. You can check out the full detailed 2024 Steelers schedule here.
Though Kenny Pickett has a grudge match against the Steelers lined up, it's unlikely that he will be able to do anything to help his team. Eagles' former 2020 second-round pick, Jalen Hurts, is making $51 million per season, and there will not be a quarterback competition in Philly. Hurts has also been selected to the Pro Bowl in back-to-back years.
However, it is worth noting that Hurts has only played a full season once in his first four years in the NFL. Hurts likes to extend the play with his legs, which has resulted in taking a whopping 74 sacks over the past two seasons (despite missing two games in 2022).
If Hurt were to be injured, late in the season when the Eagles host the Steelers in Week 15, then we could see Kenny Pickett against his former team. Of course, that would require Pickett to secure the QB2 job with his new team.
There are so many factors at play here that it's hard to imagine Kenny Pickett seeing the field against his old team, but this is something that every Pittsburgh Steelers fan would be dying to see.
