We hate to believe that the referees have a big impact on the results of a game, but Pittsburgh Steelers fans have witnessed this firsthand over their first two games of the 2024 season. Multiple egregious calls stalled offensive drives against the Broncos last week, and T.J. Watt had a game-wrecking strip sack reversed on an incorrect call in Week 1.

Fortunately, the Steelers have found a way to emerge victorious early in the season and they are looking for more assistance from the officials in Week 3 against the LA Chargers.

Pittsburgh is lacing up for their first home game of the season, and starting the year 3-0 would be the perfect way to stick it to the rest of the AFC North. Here are the announcers and referees we will be getting for this Week 3 AFC showdown.

Announcers for Steelers vs. Chargers

  • Lead Play-by-Play Announcer: Jim Nantz
  • Color Commentator: Tony Romo
  • Sideline Reporter: Tracy Wolfson

The Pittsburgh Steelers and LA Chargers will be getting national attention this week, as they draw the top broadcast crew from CBS. Jim Nantz is one of the most respected play-by-play analysts in the business, while Tony Romo rakes in the big bucks as a color analyst who can often call out plays before they happen, thanks to his intense knowledge of the game. Tracy Wolfson makes this crew the total package with superb on-field reporting.

The lead CBS crew will find a way to make this one entertaining -- even if this contest proves to be a low-scoring slugfest many fans believe it will be. This announcing crew is one of the top broadcast crews in the business -- regardless of network.

Referees for Steelers vs. Chargers

Head Referee (Crew Chief)

The head official for today's game will be Alex Kemp. Kemp started as a field judge in 2014 and became a lead referee in 2018. Fortunately for the Steelers, Kemp is notorious for having a low percentage of penalties called on the home team. In 2023, the home team drew just 44.19 percent of the 215 flags his crew threw all season.

Unfortunately, the pace of the game could be slowed. Kemp's 14 penalties called per game this season are above league average. Surprisingly, his crew has already dished out 281 penalty yards in the first two games he officiated in 2024.

Full Officiating Crew:

Referee: Alex Kemp
Umpire: Mike Morton
Down Judge: Robert Richeson
Line Judge: Rusty Baynes
Field Judge: Sean Petty
Side Judge: Lo van Pham
Back Judge: Scott Helverson
Replay Official: Gerald Frye
Replay Assistant: Julie Johnson
