There’s a particular crossroads, if you will, that exists between football and wrestling. Pro wrestling is all about storylines that frame the action, and the NFL’s only difference in that regard is that the action isn’t scripted. Case in point, the storyline revolving around the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Week 12 matchup with the Chicago Bears.

It seems to have less to do with the two first-place teams in each conference’s respective North divisions than it does with the long rivalry between the city of Chicago and Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers might not be able to compete in the game, though, having fractured a bone in his left wrist last week against Cincinnati. But Bears fans, including WWE Superstar Seth Rollins, don’t want the easy way out for what should be Rodgers’ final appearance at Soldier Field.

WWE Superstar Seth Rollins wants Pittsburgh Steelers' Aaron Rodgers to suit up for one last Chicago Bears showdown

Rollins, a multi-time world champion in WWE, joined Good Morning Football on Thursday to cut a promo on Rodgers, begging him to step onto the field in Chicago one last time to go toe-to-toe with his Bears.

“I hope that his little wrist is okay, alright? I hope that he suits up this Sunday in Chicago. Because this is not the same Bears team that he has faced for years, and years, and years, and years in Chicago. And he’s not on the same team that he was in Green Bay,” Rollins said. “This Steelers team is not those Packers teams, and he is not the same Aaron Rodgers he’s always been. He’s on the backside of his career. So I hope he shows up in Chicago.”

Rollins asking Rodgers to play Sunday against his Bears wouldn’t be too different than Rollins calling out John Cena. Rodgers "owns" the Bears with a 24-5 all-time record, one of the most lopsided records for one player against one team in NFL history. Rollins is 7-32 against Cena, who, like Rodgers, will soon be retired.

Still, Rollins is placing confidence in the Bears’ defense to make life miserable for Rodgers if he does indeed start the game. The Bears have forced more takeaways than any other team in the NFL, and Rollins hopes that will translate to the Bears getting the last maniacal laugh and stripping Rodgers of his ownership of the Bears.

“We’re not gonna come out here next week having the same conversation about Aaron Rodgers owning the Chicago Bears,” Rollins said. “He’s going to be giving up his ownership, he’s going to be ceding that ownership to someone who deserves it. He doesn’t deserve it.”

Whether Rodgers is deserving of the title might be subjective at best, but Rollins can’t deny that Rodgers, more so than anyone else except for his own team, has forced him to send the same tweet out as always following each Bears loss: “I hate football.”

“If you want to put this in the wrestling sphere, every hero needs a good villain, every baby face needs a good heel,” Rollins said. “Aaron Rodgers is the perfect heel, the perfect foil for the baby faces of 2025: the Chicago Bears.”

Rollins, being a bad guy in the WWE these days, knows all about the baby face-heel dynamic. Which means he also knows that the heel is always set up to crush the baby face’s dreams at just the right moment.

The Bears are 7-3 atop their own division, but those seven wins have come against seven teams with winless records, and not all have come with a comfortable gap on the scoreboard. Still, they’ve built up some momentum and face their first real opportunity to show the world that they are a contender in this year’s playoff race.

But that’s where Rodgers and the Steelers can play the foil perfectly, as Rollins said. This isn’t the Bears’ WrestleMania moment. Instead, it’s more like a mid-month episode of Monday Night Raw with the PLE still weeks away, where the heels almost always get the best of the baby faces to wrap up the show.

Rollins has heard it before from numerous foes standing across from him in the squared circle: Be careful what you ask for. If Rodgers can suit up, he will, and he’ll make it a point to close out his career against the city he owns with an emphatic win that could send the Bears spiraling.

In that part of the story, it’s Rodgers who will laugh maniacally at the cameras while Rollins finally tweets out for the first time this season how the Bears always make him feel about football.
