Steelers could target Aaron Rodgers if Russell Wilson fails in playoffs
Saying the New York Jets franchise is a dumpster fire right now would be an insult to dumpster fires everywhere. They had plenty of belief and hope going into this season, but for one reason or another, New York hasn't been able to get it together. The Jets have fired their head coach and general manager already.
Who knows what other plans this faulty organization could have in store to make this season worse.
Aaron Rodgers was the key factor behind many drinking the Kool-Aid the team was presenting. On paper, they looked like a juggernaut on both sides of the ball. A healthy Rodgers at quarterback was seen as a possible catalyst to take them to the Super Bowl. The opposite has happened, and the presence of the future Hall of Famer has seemingly only exemplified their clown show.
It's hard to imagine where the Jets go from here to try and improve their team next season. They went all-in, but they did it with the wrong players and staff. They might have to tear it all down and rebuild their roster from the ground up. They have talent, but they are a poorly run franchise. It might be time for New York and Rodgers to reach a divorce despite the quarterback being owed a lot of money.
Steelers could become Aaron Rodgers new home if Jets let him go
Some might think a potential addition of Rodgers is impossible for the Steelers. Right now, it currently is. Hopefully, Russell Wilson remains a quality starting quarterback for Pittsburgh to the point where the black and gold can confidently re-sign him this offseason. It begs the question, what if Wilson doesn't end the season well, and the Steeler's woes in the postseason continue?
At that point, a failed end-of-season conclusion mixed with another disappointing playoff run could keep Wilson's future with the black and gold in question. If that were to happen and Rodgers got released by the Jets, then it could make sense. The Steelers are doing their best to win the Super Bowl now, no matter if others believe they aren't close to competing with the likes of the Chiefs or the Bills.

Rodgers has played poorly this year, and he will be 41 years old on December 2. He could always retire, but he seems primed for a Brett Farve conclusion to his career. He wants a chance at winning another Super Bowl, and Pittsburgh would likely be one of his best opportunities in the right situation. He would have a quality defense and young offensive line, and some possible weapons to throw to.
It might be out of left field to even consider Rodgers as the next Steelers quarterback at the moment, but it is not as crazy as you might think. He still has some quality throws left in him, and the Jets seemed to have ruined his chances to win a championship, even though Rodgers is to blame for some of that. There is a connection between him and the Steelers, so if Wilson fails then he could get a call.
