Pittsburgh's defense hasn't had its best day through the first 20 minutes of game time, largely struggling against the pass. It will be tough to make the necessary adjustments moving forward as it appears the Steelers will be without starting cornerback Donte Jackson.

As the Eagles picked up a first and goal, Jackson stayed on the turf in visible pain and appeared to reach for his lower back. He was helped to his feet and slowly walked off of the field.

Veteran backup James Pierre stepped in for Jackson. A few plays later, Pierre let up a touchdown reception by Smith to extend the Philly lead to 17-3.

Jackson's status has not yet been updated with an official designation. The FOX broadcast did not show a replay of what may have caused his injury.

Steelers are suddenly razor-thin at cornerback

Jackson has struggled today, allowing several completions to AJ Brown and DeVonte Smith, including a touchdown to Brown. He was also on the receiving end of a nasty spin move in the open field from Kenneth Gainwell which allowed Philadelphia to pick up a third-down conversion.

It's not the first time Jackson has left a contest early as he has left several games this season with a variety of injuries. He's come back into the game in nearly every similar situation, though he did seem to be in more discomfort than his other setbacks.

Despite the pattern of Jackson leaving games, the Steelers opted to not give second-year cornerback Cory Trice Jr. a helmet today. As such, the Steelers are left with Pierre in reserve. Cameron Sutton is also active, and though he primarily plays in the slot, he could play outside if necessary.

We'll continue to monitor Jackson's status as more information becomes available.
