The Pittsburgh Steelers appear to have one name in mind for their starting quarterback in 2025 and that's Aaron Rodgers. This especially became true after Russell Wilson, the Steelers' 2024 starter, signed with the Giants.
Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders doesn't seem to think Rodgers will be landing in Pittsburgh, however.
"I've been saying it," Crosby said on his podcast, The Rush With Maxx Crosby. "The fact that he's not with Davante [Adams], and that he's not not very familiar with Pittsburgh. I don't know. I feel like he retires. He's about 42 now."
Steelers fans hope Maxx Crosby's recent prediction is incorrect
Crosby was incorrect with Rodgers' age, as the long-time NFL quarterback is 41 and won't turn 42 until December. That being said, Rodgers has floated around the idea of retiring in recent years and it feels like if he really wanted to come to Pittsburgh that it'd have happened by now. He toured the Steelers facilities roughly a week ago and no contract came after that visit.
It's no secret that Rodgers' preferred destination was with the Vikings but when they appeared not to be interested and Wilson signed with the Giants, taking them off the board, the Steelers became the only playing option for Rodgers. That being said, it isn't a surprise that he's taking his time to make this decision. This is how Rodgers operates.
If the Steelers don't end up signing Rodgers, they'll either roll with Mason Rudolph for the 2025 season or might try to sign another veteran option or even draft someone. None of the options are ideal considering how weak the free-agent and draft pool is for quarterbacks this offseason.
The Steelers added DK Metcalf through a trade this offseason and also have George Pickens on their roster so there's no shortage of weapons for Rodgers if he does indeed join them for the 2025 season. He obviously wouldn't be the long-term solution but the Steelers don't have any better options at this point, as they've put all of their eggs in the Aaron Rodgers basket.
Hopefully Crosby doesn't know something we don't and a deal can get done so this whole saga can be over with and Pittsburgh can have its quarterback for this year.
