Time is starting to work against Kyler Murray in the desert. He just finished his sixth season in the NFL since being selected first overall by the Cardinals in 2019. Since then, he has shown plenty of explosive plays as their top offensive weapon. Inconsistencies have continued to hamper the star quarterback, and Arizona seems weary of his future with the club.
Pittsburgh has a choice whether to choose Justin Fields or Russell Wilson as the starting quarterback for next season. Neither are great options, but early indications are the Steelers will lean towards Fields. Both quarterbacks would like to re-sign with The Black and Gold, but maybe there are outside choices. Getting some trade chatter about acquiring Murray might be the best move.
Trying to find an upgrade at quarterback will provide a troublesome challenge this offseason.
Browsing the upcoming class regarding the quarterback position provides hardly any interest. If the Steelers have to choose from current pending free agents, sticking with Fields would probably be the best outcome. Things change quickly in the NFL, and if a star quarterback with pedigree becomes available, then you better believe the Steelers will be interested.
Steelers adding Kyler Murray could be boost they have been searching for
Over his six years in Arizona, Murray has a losing record of 36-45-1. Murray has been a losing quarterback for most of his career. You must factor in the poor teams that he was on from time to time. Murray remains at fault for many losses, but the lack of talent around him has not made things easier. Are the failures sprouting from the organization, or does the quarterback play a key factor in the repeated struggles?
Arizona can't get past being a joke of a franchise for a long time. Murray has many doubters questioning his work ethic and decision-making. He remains one of the better dual-threat quarterbacks in football. Arizona wants change, and they might have to pull the plug on their quarterback sooner or later.
Mike Tomlin wants a mobile quarterback, and Murray would be a perfect fit for that description.

Arizona might be content with keeping their veteran signal-caller for another year or two. He has been under contract control for a while. If they could find a team willing to make a trade and take on most of his contract, they'd be foolish not to listen. If they would move Murray with a post-June 1 designation, it would save the Cardinals roughly 32.5 million dollars in cap space.
Pittsburgh has to force Arizona to eat some of his remaining contract, but it might be a price they must pay. Murray might not solve all the Steeler's issues, but he would be an upgrade over Wilson and Fields. He has proven that he can play at an elite level in spurts. Joining the Steelers organization could lead to him displaying quality performances over an entire season.
