The Steelers are snowblind through three quarters against the Cleveland Browns. In an effort to stuff the Browns on the goalline, Pittsburgh lost one of their key defenders as Elandon Roberts left the game.
As the Browns rushed to the endzone, Robert looked to fill his gap and collided with a Cleveland blocker. It was a tough hit in the trenches with helmet-to-helmet contact. Roberts took a knee after the play and was helped off the field.
The broadcast hasn't reported his status, though it's safe to assume Roberts is going through concussion protocol.
Roberts is one of the Steelers' top run-stoppers and has repeatedly shown his value on the goalline. After Roberts' exit, the Steelers were able to force a fourth down, but Jameis Winston was able to scramble in for a score. Subsequently, the Browns picked up a two-point conversion.
Payton Wilson will see more snaps due to the injury. Wilson primarily spells Roberts on passing downs, but the rookie has shown he can be reliable in the run game. Still, it's a step down in experience that should be noted.
We'll continue to monitor Roberts status as more information becomes available.
