As the Pittsburgh Steelers look to put the exclamation point on an exciting Week 8 in the NFL with a primetime game against the Giants, fans were met with discouraging news. Mike Tomlin's team couldn't quite make it to their bye week without more injuries being reported.

Before kickoff on Monday Night Football, Pittsburgh lost another rookie draft pick for an extended period of time and a polarizing quarterback sustained a soft tissue injury. Here's the latest Steelers news.

Steelers place Roman Wilson on IR

Just when it looked like Roman Wilson was about to make an impact for the first time, Brooke Pryor of ESPN announced that the rookie wide receiver has been placed on Injured Reserve.

Wilson, a third-round pick by the Steelers in the 2024 NFL Draft, was expected to be part of the equation at receiver this year, but an ankle injury during the first padded practice has resulted in Wilson logging just five snaps on the season.

Following his recovery from the ankle injury, Wilson hardly saw the field before dealing with a hamstring ailment. This injury was apparently severe enough for him to land on IR. If Wilson plays again this season, he is going to miss at least the next four weeks.

Justin Fields suffers hamstring injury

Roman Wilson is hardly the only Steelers player dealing with hamstring issues. Ian Rapoport of ESPN recently reported that Justin Fields will test his injured hamstring on Monday Night Football against the Giants to determine his role for the game.

Fields was recently demoted to Pittsburgh's second-string quarterback after Russell Wilson returned to health. However, there were expectations that the talented rookie would see the field this week.

Some have even gone as far as to speculate that the Steelers are preserving Fields' health before the trade deadline in the event that he is moved (which is hard to make sense of).

Steelers make roster moves ahead of MNF

In preparation for their Monday Night Football game against the Giants, the Pittsburgh Steelers were busy making roster moves. In addition to placing Roman Wilson on IR, the Steelers released running back Aaron Shampklin from the 53-man roster.

To fill the roster holes ahead of their Week 8 game, Pittsburgh signed running back Jonathan Ward from the practice squad to the active roster while wide receiver Brandon Johnson was promoted to the active roster from the practice squad.
