On day 20 (yes, I have been counting) of Aaron Rodgers watch, the Pittsburgh Steelers are still waiting to find out if he will be their next starting quarterback. Nobody seems to know with any certainty what Rodgers will ultimately do, but the signs are there that he is leaning in one direction.
News broke on Monday that Rodgers had a throwing session with the Steelers big offseason addition D.K. Metcalf at UCLA, which only raised more speculation that he will be joining the team.
That news and the continued lack of clarity surrounding the situation prompted reporters to ask Steelers owner Art Rooney II to weigh in on Rodgers while at the NFL owners meeting. His comments are rather telling, to say the least.
Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney II seems confident that Aaron Rodgers will be a Steeler
ESPN's Brooke Pryor spoke with Art Rooney II about the Aaron Rodgers situation, and he had plenty to say.
Rooney said he is "hearing" that Rodgers' decision is "heading in our direction", and that "we keep getting positive signals about it." One of those signs was the workout between D.K. Metcalf and the former MVP, with Rooney stating, "I would say it was a good sign that he wanted to do that."
Even with all of the positive signs that Rooney has seen from Rodgers, it's telling that even he doesn't know much more than the rest of us. As far as a deadline for him to sign, Rooney kept it vague but said, "Not forever, but a little while longer."
Could that mean that they are comfortable waiting just a few more days? Or could it be weeks, or even months? The lack of clarity on how this situation is playing out has been difficult for fans, but even Rooney himself also seems surprised by how long this has dragged on.
The Steelers have backed themselves into a corner with how they have handled the QB situation, and it's clear that even their owner is tired of waiting to find out who will be the team's starter in 2025.
