The Pittsburgh Steelers wished special teams ace Cordarrelle Patterson a happy birthday and one would think that would be enough, right? Wrong.
Patterson was not thrilled with the Steelers' birthday post mostly because the team opted to put it on the team's Instagram story instead of making a full post about it. Patterson didn't hesitate to sound off about his displeasures either.
"Damn I couldn't even get a post on the page n sh*t lol Yall know something I don't know???" Patterson posted on his own story.
Cordarrelle Patterson was furious with how Steelers handled his birthday post
The Steelers do seem to post a lot of the birthday messages on their main account with the most recent ones being Chris Boswell and Mike Tomlin so at first glance, it's understandable why Patterson's birthday message going up on the story could be upsetting. That being said, there's a solid chance that the Steelers release Patterson soon, as they can save $2.8 million by doing so.
Pittsburgh also recently signed Kenneth Gainwell, who can do Patterson's job and hopefully do it with less whining. Considering that a decent chunk of change can be saved by cutting Patterson and they found someone else to fill in for him, this birthday thing might have something to it.
Patterson signed with the Steelers last offseason after jumping around the league. He tallied 135 rushing yards, 80 receiving yards, and 240 return yards during what could end up being his only year in the Steel City.
While it's never fun to get cast aside on your birthday of all days, this could very well be a sign of what's to come for Patterson as a Steeler. The writing has felt like its been on the walls regarding Patterson's future and not posting his 'Happy Birthday' message on their main page feels as though things are going to finally come to an end for Patterson in Pittsburgh.
