The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns will face off in Week 8 under very rare circumstances. The two teams have matching 5-2 records thus far, and the winner of this game will be in sole possession of first place in the AFC North.

For the Steelers, it would only be a mild surprise for them to be sitting in that position. Cleveland, however, has been one of the big surprises of the NFL season. They haven't exactly dominated any of their opponents, and the offense is still extremely limited by the play of quarterback DeShaun Watson.

Still, this will be a true test for Pittsburgh after losing to the Browns in Week 4. As the game approaches, you can find everything you need to know about the divisional bout right here. Injuries, storylines, weather forecasts, etc. Bookmark this page and check back every day!

Biggest Pittsburgh Steelers Storylines heading into Week 8

Is this Browns team for real, or can the Steelers get revenge for their Week 4 loss?

It's hard to believe that a Steelers-Browns matchup in November could have real AFC North and playoff implications, but that's where we find ourselves in 2026. Their previous battle was a classic Thursday night road nightmare for the Steelers, as they dropped to 0-5 all-time against Cleveland in those specific conditions.

If the Browns can complete the season sweep (something they last accomplished in 1988, believe it or not), it will be hard for even their biggest detractors to say they aren't a real playoff contender. However, if Pittsburgh can take care of business at home comfortably, it could be the start of a run to the AFC North crown for the Steelers.

Can the Steelers keep up their recent dominance in the trenches?

For the Steelers to win their rematch with the Browns in Week 8, they will need to continue to dominate their opponents in both trenches. Pittsburgh has out-rushed their opponents 364 to 186 over their three-game win streak, forcing their opponents to try to beat them through the air.

Even though he has been better this season compared to the majority of his Browns career prior, DeShaun Watson is still a limited QB who can't carry the load. If Pittsburgh can make Cleveland one-dimensional offensively, they should be able to easily take care of them at home.

How will the way this game plays out affect both team's trade deadline approach?

Let me get this out of the way to start: I don't think either of these teams should be buyers at the trade deadline. The Browns are way ahead of schedule, but they still don't have a plan at QB long term and have been killing the draft over the past few years. They should sit on their hands and see how far they can go this season with what they have.

For the Steelers, the story is similar. Once Aaron Rodgers retires after the season, their QB job will be wide open yet again. As much as they may want to go all-in during Rodgers' last hurrah, there aren't any players who will be available who would truly move the needle.

Sure, you could add a receiver or corner that might give you a reasonable boost. But to what end? Regardless of what I think, though, I have to imagine that the Steelers will look for reinforcements no matter how the game plays out.
