Coming off their thrilling 34-22 home victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 5, the 3-2 Pittsburgh Steelers head south this week to face the 1-4 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who themselves are coming off their first win of the season last week against the Dallas Cowboys.

Despite their record (and an injury to starting quarterback Baker Mayfield), the Bucs are coming off their two most competitive games of the season, with undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels filling in for Mayfield. It looks as though Daniels will once again be the one under center against Pittsburgh, and they can't allow him to look nearly as comfortable as Dallas did a week ago.

Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh haven't played each other many times, but the Steelers have dominated those meetings 10-2. To keep pace in a hotly contested AFC North, they badly need that to become 11-2 this weekend.

Biggest Pittsburgh Steelers Storylines heading into Week 6

Can Jaylen Warren keep up his unbelievable run against a tough Tampa run defense?

Calling what Jaylen Warren has done over the past three games "unbelievable may not be the right word, since many Steelers fans have seen glimpses of the level of play he's reached this season. Still, three consecutive games with over 125 yards from scrimmage is no small feat. In fact, Warren is the only player to do that so far this season.

The Buccaneers will be his toughest test so far by a mile; however, they are allowing just 3.28 yards per attempt on the ground, according to Sumer Sports. If Warren can maintain his level of production against a tough opponent like Tampa Bay, then his breakout will feel even more real than it already does.

Can the Steelers' run defense shut down another high-powered run game?

No Derrick Harmon, no problem for the Steelers in Week 5 against the Colts' rushing attack. Despite facing star running back Jonathan Taylor, Pittsburgh completely shut down the run against Indianapolis. They allowed just 66 yards on 24 attempts for a measly 2.8 yards per carry.

While Harmon's absence didn't hurt them last week, the Buccaneers' run game has actually been more efficient than the Colts' this year, even before the Steelers crushed them a week ago. Bucky Irving looks much more like the player who burst onto the scene as a rookie in 2024, increasing his yards-per-attempt average from 3.4 last season to 5.3 so far this year. If Pittsburgh can slow him down with Harmon still on Injured Reserve, it should give the unit a ton of confidence moving forward.

Will Tampa Bay play more man coverage, and can the Steelers handle it if they do?

The Steelers' offense looks much better over the past three games after struggling mightily to start the season, but their kryptonite has remained the same for most of their five games: man coverage. Pittsburgh's receivers simply aren't winning often enough when teams man them up, and Aaron Rodgers' unwillingness to stay calm in the pocket isn't exactly helping either.

The old gunslinger can still carve up zone for the most part, but unless his receivers can win almost immediately against man, he simply doesn't have the same playmaking ability he once had. Tampa Bay has played man on just 19.1% of their snaps this season, according to Sumer Sports. Will that change against Pittsburgh? And if it does, can they find success despite being down three receivers? Speaking of...

Will the Steelers' offense change at all with multiple receivers now on the shelf?

Pittsburgh will head into Week 6 down three receivers: Roman Wilson, Michael Pittman Jr., and special teams ace Ben Skowronek. For a team that wants to live in 11 personnel and in the shotgun, it could mean a serious change in how they operate until at least one of them returns.

Pittsburgh shifted to more 12 and 22 personnel in the second half of Week 5 once Wilson and Skowronek went down, but will that plan carry over into next week? It's hard to say for sure given how Rodgers and head coach Mike McCarthy prefer to run the offense, but I certainly hope they are smart enough to lean on their tight ends and running backs without their full group of playmakers available.

Even when everyone has been healthy, they have been far more effective when using heavier formations, so the offense may actually be in a better situation despite the unfortunate injuries.
